A Tar Heel Dessert

You say "Tar" I'll say "Heels!!" The 2022 Tar Heels are Natty Bound. What a dance it has been, and it's not over yet. If you had told me back in February that we would be going all the way to the national championship, I would have questioned your sanity. But here we are. Game days are the best days. What makes them even better is the perfect game time snack. So I'm branching out today, and adding a dessert recipe that doesn't produce a cookie. I know, I know, I specialize in cookies. I can barely believe it myself. But this recipe is too good to pass up. And it's perfect for our Tar Heels' last dance. It is, after all, called Tar Heel Pie. The recipe is below, let me know what you think!
Ingredients
Original recipe yields 12 servings
½ cup butter, melted
¾ cup chocolate chips
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans
½ cup flaked coconut
¼ cup chocolate chips
1 (9 inch) deep dish pie crust
Directions
Step 1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C.)
Step 2 In a large bowl, pour warm melted butter over 3/4 cup chocolate chips. Stir until smooth. Mix together flour, brown sugar, and white sugar, then stir into chocolate mixture. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Fold in pecans, coconut, and 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Pour into pie crust.
Step 3 Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Top should be set, and may crack slightly, but the pie is best if under-baked.
Tar Heels! Tar Heels! We love our good ole Tar Heels. So here's to good pie and (hopefully) another banner to hang in the Dean Dome. Enjoy :)
